My school censored an article about gay rights?

In journalism class, this kid wrote an article about his uncle being gay and how gay people should be allowed to get married yadda yadda. Well, the teacher read the article and showed it to the principal, who then decided not to put it in the school paper. The kids received a bad grade because the teacher said the content was inapporpriate. WTF is wrong with my school? Do you think I should complain about this, or are other schools like this also?
