Does advil help ear aches?

So I had a perscription and it helped my infection, but a week ago I came to visit family and I forgot my medz. So I started feeling pain about 4 days ago and my mom said she would mail me the medz but I can't wait for it to get here! And I need to know what to buy and my uncle keeps saying to get advil? So does advil work?
